This photograph depicts the London premises of Morgan and Company carriage makers on Long Acre near Covent Garden at the turn of the last century. It is informative to see horse-drawn carriages displayed in the same sort of showroom we associate with automobiles today, confirming the continuity of salesmanship, if nothing else.
By the end of the first decade of the twentieth century Morgan was selling automobiles in the same showroom. Morgan was the British dealer of Adler motor cars from Germany. Both companies are now gone but the building is still standing. As of this writing the clothier chain COS occupies the storefront.
Thank you for sharing this glimpse into history. I have a few antique vehicles, including an Albany 2 seater Sleigh, that I am restoring and I am hoping to share the history and tradition with anyone interested.
